PRESS RELEASE – 15 October 2012

SEAWEEK 2013 ANNOUNCED

The theme for Seaweek 2013 has just been announced by the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education as:

Toiora te Moana - Toiora te Tangata, Healthy Seas - Healthy People”

Seaweek will be held from 2 - 10 March 2013, but build-up events will begin in November 2012.

The theme highlights our many connections with the sea and calls on Kiwis from all walks of life to celebrate Tangaroa's realm, tackle issues such as pollution, pest species and illegal harvesting of the sea's bounty, and keep our seas healthy for all.

NZAEE Seaweek 2012 had more events nationwide than ever before, and showed how important the sea is in the lives of New Zealanders.

National Coordinator Mels Barton says “Seaweek is all about learning from each other and sharing experiences about and around the sea. No one agency or organization in New Zealand manages our ocean, it is something we all contribute to.”

“If you, your organization, group, company, family or community would like to hold an event, run a competition or host any other kind of activity during Seaweek we will publicise it for you – contact me on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 021 213 7779 with your ideas.”

The Seaweek website is about to undergo a major revamp in preparation for 2013 but you can keep in touch via Sea Week on Facebook.

Seaweek is organised by the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education (NZAEE) and is in it’s 22nd year. Seaweek 2013 is sponsored by ASB Community Trust, Department of Conservation and the New Zealand Marine Studies Centre, plus many local sponsors. Sponsors and supporters of Seaweek are welcomed.
