Experiencing Marine Reserves - Community Guided Snorkel Day
Sunday 7 March, 10am to 3pm
Where: Reotahi Beach (after McLeods Bay follow Reotahi Rd, then Beach Rd to end to Reotahi carpark, opposite Motukaroro Island and Marsden Pt), Whangarei Heads.
What: Guided snorkels at the Whangarei Harbour marine reserve site at Reotahi, information and BBQ.
Weather permitting – cancellations - More Fm. Bring your own gear or get free hire for our mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit's. Recommended for everyone 5 years old plus. All children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult. Bring sunblock and money for BBQ. Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day. - Karakia and talk about the history of Ahipara, manamoana, caring for the coast, the rahui and kaitiakitanga: Rueben Porter and Kaumatua.
- Surfing demonstrations and surf life-saving
- Beach Volleyball
- Blow-karts
- Water Cowboys Stand-up Paddle Board
- Traditional storytelling with Waikarere Gregory – 2.30 to 3.30
- Beach games and prizes for the children – bring a kite and win prizes for the highest flyer, most colourful, best home-made!
- Information displays on coastal and marine care: NRC, DoC, MinFish, Far North Environment Centre, and the Kaitiaki of Ahipara

Beach Clean-up Day

As part of SEAWEEK, we are organising a beach and underwater cleanup event in partnership with Project AWARE, a nonprofit environmental organization. The day will finish off with a BBQ afternoon tea on Roberton (Motuarohia) Island. DoC are kindly providing transport from Russell and Waitangi. Again, places are limited, so please RSVP asap (by March 8th at the very latest) if you would like to take part, or if you would like more information.
