Help DOC clean up South Beach as a part of Seaweek

Where: South Beach, Whanganui  14 March 2021
Details: The Department of Conservation is running a beach clean up at South Beach, Whanganui, on Sunday 14th March. We would love for members of the public to volunteer to help us clear the beach of pieces of rubbish and debris. We will bring our 4 wheel drive and trailer, disposable gloves and hand sanitiser.

Volunteers will require their sunhats/sunblock, plenty of water, and suitable footwear.
Meet at South Beach car park (adjacent to the Whanganui Airport) at 10am.

About South Beach: South Beach is a 20km stretch of sand, excellent for a day’s picnic, surfing or fishing. A wild and untamed beach, there is a car parking area and a short walk to the beach, but for full beach access a 4X4 is advised. Take care at all times and watch the tides as South Beach is great fun but an unpatrolled area.

There was yoga at the start, followed by litter picking and then rock pool exploring! Part of the national Seaweek coordination team was there spreading the word about the events coming up and talking about how you can get involved. We have started to update our trusty old website with some events now, so if you are hosting an event please get in touch! Anyone else do some beach cleaning this weekend? What's the strangest thing you found? - we found a lamp! ... See MoreSee Less
