New Supporters for Seaweek 2019

NZAEE Seaweek is delighted to announce new national supporters for Seaweek 2019.
Foundation North has just announced it will be continuing to support NZAEE with Seaweek 2019 and the Hauraki Gulf Monitoring Project using the New Zealand Marine Studies Centre’s programme Marine Metre Squared. Foundation North is Seaweek’s major financial sponsor.
Fisheries New Zealand are a new sponsor for Seaweek 2019 and have donated funding to be used for regional events around the country in areas not covered by Foundation North.
Kiwi North are a new sponsor for Seaweek 2019 and are providing the Northland Regional Coordinator.
New prize supporters for 2019 include Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust, Canoe and Kayak, Outboard Boating Club, Auckland Whale and Dolphin Safari and Fish4all who have all donated significant prizes for Seaweek 2019 competitions.
Seaweek National Coordinator Dr Mels Barton says “We are delighted to welcome all these new organisations to our family of national supporters. It is really encouraging that they are recognising the benefits of supporting the educational opportunities provided by Seaweek”.
The theme for this year’s Seaweek, which runs from Saturday 2 to Sunday 10 March 2019, is “Tiakina o Tātou Mōana – Care for our Seas”. This year’s theme highlights the impact of plastic, litter and other pollutants on our coasts and seas.
New for Seaweek 2019 will be the launch of more great opportunities and resources to inspire children to get involved in citizen science.
Many events will be scheduled around the country during Seaweek 2019, including favourites such as ‘Farewell to the Godwits’ bird watching, clean-ups, adventure races, films, lectures and guided snorkeling trips. If you are interested in organising an event contact the Seaweek Regional Coordinator for your area to discuss how they can support you. Their contact details and all events will be available on the Seaweek website.
The Seaweek team would love to hear what events your school or group is doing to explore next year’s Seaweek theme “Tiakina o Tātou Mōana – Care for our Seas” and help you with publicity and resources. Please let the National Coordinator, Mels Barton know your ideas and plans:
Seaweek 2019 is coordinated by the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education, supported by Foundation North, Department of Conservation, Fisheries New Zealand, New Zealand Marine Studies Centre (Otago University), Environment Canterbury Regional Council, Greater Wellington Regional Council, The National Aquarium – Napier City Council, Kiwi North, New Zealand Coastal Society, Young Ocean Explorers, Experiencing Marine Reserves, Wild for Taranaki, Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust, Auckland Whale & Dolphin Safari, Outboard Boating Club, Canoe and Kayak and many local sponsors.
