We see The New Zealand Coastal Society and NZAEE working together in the future to ensure the sustainable management of New Zealand’s coastal and marine environment.”
Nominations have flooded in for the 2014 NZAEE Seaweek “Ocean Champion” and voting to find the winner closes this Friday 28 February, so if you haven’t voted yet go to www.seaweek.org.nz and choose your favourite.
NZAEE Seaweek National Coordinator Dr Mels Barton is delighted that the NZ Coastal Society have come on board “The Ocean Champion initiative celebrates all those individuals, groups and organizations who work so hard to look after our seas and the marine life that lives in them. It’s fantastic to get support from a professional body like the NZ Coastal Society to bring credibility to the initiative and encourage even more people to get involved in looking after our oceans ”.
The theme for NZAEE’s Seaweek 2014 is “Our fragile, finite taonga – be alert to the fragility of the marine environment and its treasures. Kia mataara! Tiakina te au o te moana, he kōpīpī tōna”. The theme highlights how precious this amazing resource is that we call the sea.
More than 100 events are scheduled around the country during NZAEE Seaweek 2014 from March 1-9, and these are all listed on the NZAEE Seaweek website at www.seaweek.org.nz.

NZAEE Seaweek 2014 is coordinated by the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education (NZAEE) and proudly supported by ASB Community Trust, Department of Conservation, NZ Marine Studies Centre, University of Otago, Auckland Council, the DSP Print Group Ltd and many local sponsors.
The New Zealand Coastal Society was formed in 1992 to promote and advance knowledge and understanding of the coastal zone. It provides a forum for those with an interest in the coastal zone to communicate amongst themselves and to the public.
NZCS members represent a wide range of coastal science, engineering, management and planning disciplines. They are employed in the engineering and environmental consulting sectors, in local, regional, and central government, in research institutes, in the tertiary education sector, and in schools.
NZ Coastal Society is a technical group of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). The multi-disciplinary nature of coastal management in New Zealand means many members are from areas other than engineering. There are no entry criteria for the society and the organisation welcomes membership enquiries from anyone with an interest in the coast.
